This week, the art world once again draws its attention to the Swiss Alps and gathers in beautiful Basel to find out what galleries from around the world have to offer, explore new talents at Satellite fairs such as Liste or Volta or even rediscover artists who might have faded away from the spotlight for a while.

Even more than during the previous years, the fair dominates the city centre this time: redesigned by well-known architects Herzog & de Meuron, the new halls now entail an area of 38,000 m2, with a length of 220m, width of 90 and height of 32 m. For the art fairs, this means that a larger area can be dedicated to the Features Sector as well as to the “Unlimited” exhibition where large works by Carl Andre, Marc Camilie Chaimowicz, Theaster Gates, Susan Hiller, Walid Raad and Thomas Schütte will be on display. Furthermore, Design Miami Basel will be closer to the main centre of the fair, where as every year, over 200 galleries exhibit new and exciting artworks and talks, films and tours will take place adding to the usual hustle and bustle of the art fair. However, just as much as is going on inside the walls of Art Basel, can be found outside in Basel`s numerous institutions, galleries and project spaces. Hence we will focus this week on all the beautiful exhibitions, shows and performances that are not to be missed.
